I really enjoyed this poem, especially the subversion of gender roles!

i didn't read the story in this edition that isn't le lai de lanval but i can't find an edition to mark as read that only contain's le lai de lanval
anyway! this was very fun to discuss—literally walked out of my french class grinning like a cheeseball because i had such a great time talking about a poem from the 1100s???? the gender relations in this story and critique of medieval feudal society are SO FASCINATING. the fact that the fairy tutoyes arthur!! anyway enough geekery from me i promise im not a francophile

I had to read this for my world literature class. I thought it was silly and cute, and maybe took ten minutes to read. It's a typical Arthurian tale; much like any that you'd read in Le Morte De Arthur, but it's focus is romance rather than heroism. It was silly and bizarre at times, and all you could do was roll your eyes and think, "really?"
