This book would have been improved if it was one-third shorter. All the interior monlogues stopped the plot dead in its tracks and, frankly, made listening to this tedious. I decided to pick up the paper book towards the end so I could just read the good stuff, the plot, the action.

I also wondered what the point of the DOG was! (Maybe I missed it skimming).

I rarely see movies based on books, so I thought I'd try this, a book based on a movie. I suspect the movie is better.

It is the story of a man who wakes up wounded and without any memories. The only thing he has left is a metal manacle on his wrist. He ends up in a town where the local sheriff recognizes him as a wanted man. As he is thrown in prison, aliens attack the town and kidnap some of the townsfolks. Along with the town businessman, the man has to search for the aliens and his memory.

The plot was weak. By that I mean that it was cliché and easy. What I mean by that is that there was nothing new or spectacular.

First Reads winner - thank you!!

Smartly written, very "visual", with just the right amount of action. I have not seen the movie to compare the two, but look forward to seeing it more now that I have read the book. Since the book is written from the screen-play, I easily imagined the cast in each role and hope the visuals of the book match the movie. The author's writing style was smart, while not being too wordy or hard to follow. I really enjoyed it.

I liked that it had the "old-timey" feel blending with the futuristic. It reminds me a bit of some of my favorite TV shows - Firefly and Doctor Who. Very appealing.

Readable but not much going on in the book that adds to the film so a great disappointment.

I obviously wasn't looking for a serious read when I picked this book up to listen to. I thought it might be silly and fun, and since I never saw the movie, I'd at least know the plot then. The problem is that I didn't realize that it is a novel based on the screenplay for the movie, as opposed to the book the screenplay is based on. Thus, it reads just as a movie would play out and any of the additional depth that makes a book preferable to the screen is missing.

While I the occasional shadows of important themes pop up, not a single one is ever explored or expanded on. The book is action-packed, but not much else. All-in-all, there wasn't much to recommend it. At least the movie had some cool actors in it; all this had was an overly breathy, over-acted voice. (I had an audio edition.) Meh
