I'm just so annoyed. There's too many holes in the logic of this story--the entire series--that I need someone to fill in for me. On the surface, the story is compelling and the theme's are engaging. But there's so many issues for me in concern to the world building, let alone the amount of time it takes for characters to stop feeling two-dimensional, if they do. And it's just so distracting how dumb everyone is.
And then that ending ... why? If Roth was going for an Eden/Jesus parable, shouldn't Tris have seemingly died, seen her mother, then come back to life? Take a page from Rowling's book! This story was about Tris for so long and suddenly I'm left with a broken-but-on-the-mend Tobias? No thanks. Especially when we only get his perspective peddled and shoved to us in the third book. Couldn't Tobias's lesson about grief be learnt by Tris with her parents, her mother? I mean, so many of her friends died too. Uriah died! His death--his seemingly meaningless death (standing in the wrong place, wrong time) could have ignited a relapse for Tris over her grief for her parents, Will, and so on. Because, you know, grief can come back. And then Roth can say all those pretty words about dealing with it. And try to convince me that Roth couldn't have kept the scene between Tobias, Christina, and the syringe while Tris was in a coma--before she wakes up, as she would in my version--and he can't choose whether to pull the plug so he decides to try to forget a choice has to be made or rather, he chooses a choice that only affects him, and so on.
Also, Caleb loses both his parents, is hated by his sister, discovers he's genetically damaged and insignificant in the world, didn't know as much as he thought he once knew, feels enough guilt over everything to sacrifice himself, is obviously scared, and then loses his sister too as she sacrifices herself for him, leaving him an only loved by Tris hated coward. And all we get is a brief conversation between him and Tobias that's mostly about Tobias?! What about Caleb's character development, his perspective? Roth's writing would have been greatly improved had Allegiant been written showing the POV of Tris, Tobias, AND Caleb. She could even keep her ending and I wouldn't think so poorly of it.
I really just think that Roth had a vision of that ending with Tobias and the ashes zip-lining and she was willing to kill for it.

I'm so glad I read the books after discovering the series through the films. I am so in love with these books. The characters are so complex with real struggles, Roth does an amazing job of avoiding "good vs bad" and really explores the idea of good people bad choices and the difficulties of knowing what the right thing even is in such hard situations.

Beware if you haven't read yet...
I understand why this book is getting so much hate... but I personally loved it. I haven't found the words yet, so I'll have to come back to this, but I felt like the ending was all beautifully written and handled, and Veronica Roth has some serious cajones. Good for her for following through with how she felt like her series needed to end.

En osaa antaa tälle kirjalle tähtiä. Keskivaiheilla tämä ei ole viiden tähden kirja, mutta viimeisten sivujen jälkeen en vain pysty antamaan vähempää. Pysyköön viidessä. //edit. laskin neljään.

Uriah on lempparini koko sarjassa joten eiköhän vaan mennä ja tapeta hänetkin. Ensin vajotaan koomaan ja sitten kun minä vielä itken Trisin kuolemaa niin heitetään kehiin kaunis kohtaus jossa Zeke ja äiti kytkevät hänet irti laitteista. En pysty.
Ja mikä pahinta, henkiin jääneilla kirjan loppu on onnellinen. Elämä jatkuu, mutta silti kaikki on surullista ja kaunista ja koskettavaa ja itken liikaa.

Tris kuoli enkä varmaan koskaan pääse siitä yli. Tris ja Tobias eivät koskaan saa sitä onnellista tulevaisuutta jonka olisivat ansainneet. Alan aina vollottaa Trisin kuolemakohtauksessa, mutta pahimmillaan kaikki on kirjan viimeisissä luvuissa ja epilogissa. Onko Veronica Rothin pakko kirjoittaa kaikki niin hiton kauniisti?
