I liked it but sometimes it bordered on trying too hard to be funny and the "breaking the fourth wall" moments sometimes did not go well but it was still a really good read

More like a 4.5. The beginning of the story was a little slow for me, but after the first few chapters I really started to get into the story. I think at that point the main character became someone who I could relate to and I felt like I understood her. Also, the side characters were just a lot of fun, and that made the story so much better. It’s a great grifter/fantasy/mystery story with a bit of the fairy tale added in for good measure. If you like the story of a thief finding their heart, this is the story for you.

Idk how this book went unread on my shelf for so long because it was simply INCREDIBLE. Easily the most imaginative and unique story I've read all year.
Fun story - I tried to start this book a few months ago right after I finished A Little Life and I got about 10 pages in before I gave up because I simply couldn't handle anything with a solid plot. I am so so glad I picked it up during the cozy months. Literally the perfect timing.
Alright, catch me sprinting to the bookstore to buy a copy of Painted Devils...
