I read the trilogy so I'll talk about these books in relation to each other. This was my favorite of the three. The comedy was fantastic, the struggles were a level deeper now that we were beyond the surface level misunderstandings and the struggles were much more relatable.

This is by far my favorite book in this trilogy but my goodness is there a lot going on in this book. You have a sudden and dramatic change in careers for one of our main characters that includes a stalking subplot. Meanwhile, you have our new to parenting parent acting as the main parent for a majority of the time while their partner is starting their new career across the Atlantic. There's just a lot going on - and maybe that was what was missing from the other books in this series for me because I definitely enjoyed this one more than the other two.

1 star because I unfortunately cannot go lower. I wanted to love this trilogy, I really did, but I just can’t. Still, I kept reading because of Olivia and Henry and because I find it hard not to finish what I start.

Firstly, Olivia and Emily are not believable as a married couple or even as a couple. There is absolutely no chemistry to be seen, and don’t get me started on Emily’s insufferable pride that has dragged on from book one. How can you be married to someone—a union of souls in its essence—yet feel like you owe them money for something they did for you? What kind of person feels indebted to their spouse for gifts? What kind of married person who claims to be so deeply in love, doesn’t view their assets as one? Olivia and Emily might be married but Emily treats the marriage as a casual, no strings relationship, even though they have a child together and another one on the way in the future. While Olivia, bless her heart, goes above and beyond and acts like a married person, even with her communication challenges.

Emily’s personality and her insistence on dying on the I’m-indebted-to-my-wife hill is so bizarre to me and I can’t wrap my head around it. This refusal to treat the marriage as a union and the dismal lack of chemistry is one of the many reasons why the relationship and marriage seem completely unbelievable to me.

Furthermore, Emily is just downright unlikeable. My goodness. I think the author spent quite a bit of time trying to justify Emily’s personality and behavior but it didn’t convince me an iota. Not to mention, I found myself skipping pages and pages of meaningless exposition because the book is such a bore to read. Their relationship has about as much chemistry as a centenarian couple in a coma—in hospice—in the middle of winter—in a frozen tundra

Also, no one, not even the author can convince me that this couple has had sex. It’s just not believable even with a (sub-subpar) sex scene and references to sex added to the mix

Thanks to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for the ARC of this.

Unfortunately this was not for me pacing wise at all. It felt very character driven and just so boring and draggy to me. I didn’t like Emily and I didn’t understand her at all, I could understand why in book 1-2 she didn’t want to use Olivia’s money for the optics and imbalance of it all, but y’all are married! Why are you worrying about repaying her and making your own money instead of doing what will make your family happiest? The stalker felt forced, and everyone hitting on Olivia while she didn’t recognize it got a bit old. Overall, it was fine, but nothing that caught my interest or felt special to me.

It's the Journey's End and it's bittersweet that the story is over. I could go on reading about Olivia, Emily and Henry forever. This is a fitting end to a sweet trilogy.

I received a free copy of this book to provide an ARC review.

Journeys End is the third book in the series and is as enjoyable as the first.

A great end to the trilogy.
