*UPDATE Setembro 2021*

I truly need to stop comparing every fantasy romance to the ACOTAR series, but am having such a hard time… many parallels and TO BE HONEST I have very little patience for such a slow burnnnnn but it was worth it in the end and good things come to those who wait (me). J.A. was really able to steer away from the same direction that ACOMAF took and I eventually forgot how to even compare them. Towards the end of the book the action and thrill (finally) started to pick up and it was amazing. I needed to slow down my eyes as I was trying to read as fast as I could. Such a page turner!! The end was soo shocking, and was not left disappointed … the last 200 pages or so were better than the pages before, and really turned this 4 star into a 5 star read!! Super impressed and cannot wait to start book 3

3.5 stars. Gosh some of that was repetitive, I swear for how many pages there are not all that much happens. The same almost EXACT conversations kept repeating, and I was like goddam we just covered this lol. But still exceptionally entertaining, kept me up to 3am which is not normal.

No idea how the rating on this is so high.

There is so much info dumping, words were being said, and I still have no idea what this book is about. The pacing in this book is horrible. Literally NOTHING happened.
Also, the characters annoyed me way too much.

But I have to say, this book (series) is great for a drinking game. Take a shot everytime:
- Poppy and Cas do something sexual and afterwards Poppy thinks something like "I tried to muster up an ounce of shame for what we did, but I couldn't." (Congrats girl! You're not ashamed for fucking in the middle of a war while everyone around you knows about it. Great.)
- Poppy asks a question and Kieran says "Absolutely nobody is surprised by you asking another question." (No, she's not special for asking questions. If I were her, I'd also ask damn many questions about a world I basically know nothing about. It's not a character trait of hers, just a normal reaction. And the repetition of this line is certainly not funny.)
- Cas says how turned on he is by Poppy threatening/stabbing him (We get it, bro. You're a 200+ y/o man who acts like a horny teenager around a 19 y/o girl.)
- Poppy describes Cas using these words/sentences:
•The right side of his mouth curved up and a dimple appears. GoDs, ThEsE inFuRiAtIng DiMplEs. (I now I have a burning passion for dimples)
• He smells of cinnamon, dark spices and pine. (Get away from me)
• His eyes are a pool of gold and honey. (Shut the fuck up)
- "Honeydew." (*gagging noise*)

You'll probably end up with Alcohol poisoning, but whatever. Hey, I think I summed up this book pretty good, didn't I?

“ And I chose you because you made me feel like I was someone, that I was a person and not merely an object. You saw me and accepted me”

I absolutely adore the characters and how they develop, I love how witty and charming Hawke can be and I admire Poppy, her kindness, courage and badassness.

All the characters have great development but Poppy and Hawke are holding a place in my heart, growing fonder and fonder with each book. Their banter is funny and such a joy to read, honestly 10/10 power couple. The romance and spice in this book is incredible.

There are so many plot twists in this book it’s not funny but I can guarantee you’ll be on the edge of your seat for this rollercoaster ride and you’ll love every second.

I love this series so much and it just keeps getting better! I would hate to have to wait for the next book because there’s a massive cliffhanger. I’m excited to jump into the The Crown of Gilded Bones next!!

Re-read thoughts:
This was exceptionally punishing to read a second time. The first book flows so easy, but holy shit this one is insufferable on the second go. The first thirteen chapters were so bad because literally nothing happens except hashing out exposition. And then up to chapter 31 they're still "pretending" and it's so pathetic and annoying because its clear they're not. But every single paragraph of Poppy inside her head drives me mental because she's constantly coming up with reasons for why people are lying to her and why Cas doesn't love her and ughhhhhhhhhh how did this not irritate the fuck out of me the first time around?!

Can't be bothered changing my rating though.

*First Read*
Okay, I don't know why I thought this was a duology, but because of that I spent ALL DAY reading this long ass book - when I had a thousand other things to do - and then it went and ended on a cliffhanger, and now I've just seen there will be four books all up. Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck.

Thoughts: OMG I love this book, maybe even more than FBAA. I’m completely obsessed a lot of things happen in the book and I love all of it. I adored seeing more of Solis, New Haven, and Spessa’s End but my most prominent and lasting love of this book is Kieran! I completely adore
