What an absolutely outstanding book! I stumbled across this by accident on Kindle Unlimited and I'm so pleased I did.
I made the mistake of reading this in the dark before bed one night and couldn't sleep until 3am...Nuns can be scary!
Brilliant plot, characters, and an overall wonderful read.

In honour of Women in Horror month this book was top of my list to read.
Freya has inherited Angel Manor from her “nutty” aunt, ignoring her mom’s wishes to sell it, she decides with her friends to turn it into a hotel. Strange things start as soon as they arrive, but with the nuns still haunting the building can they survive.
Freya was quite a weak needy character. Throughout this story, she never once stood on her own two feet. Whether at the start where she had Oliver and Bam to lean on, or further on with Logan or Marie-Claire, she always had someone there to watch her back. Although rather tiresome, it wasn’t a bad thing as it helped develop the other characters. One of favourites was Terrance, a minor character but a bad lad trying to go good.
From the prologue to the final page there is enough gruesome action to keep the majority of horror fans happy whilst keeping with the traditional horror theme of the haunted house and the monster in the basement. Having evil nuns was a good idea as I always sense an air of sinisterism with them and feel that they have something to hide.
The suspense and terror builds up as the story progresses and just when you think the story has finished with the ending you expect; the author has one last surprise and another secret is revealed.
A fast-paced action filled book and another author I will follow

I won this in the Early Reviewers giveaway. Once I received the e-book I later took a better look at the title and when I saw Lucifer I was like, oh no...can't do this. Don't like anything to do with the devil (it was more with ghost, spirits and what not). The problem was I had already read the prologue when I looked at the title. Oh ....My....God! When I finished the prologue I actually thought I had just finished Chapter 1. Holy Toledos Batman, I couldn't even imagine how the rest of this book could possibly turn out. It was gory, straight up gory, talking jaws shattering, limbs being torn apart, blood everywhere. If your not a fan of blood, don't even bother. If I thought it couldn't get any worse, then wait till you read the last chapter, inhale...realize what just happened and then exhale. Good book, glad it was free but I'm sure I wouldn't have mind paying for it. The whole time I read this, I thought movie, this could be a movie but I doubt it could have that much blood in it.

Bloodthirsty spirits? Yes, please.
Very good read. Terrifying, heartbreaking, and with just the right amount of shocking gore, I would recommend this to anyone that is a fan of bloody ghost stories.

I hate to rate it so low because it was well written. (So I added a star just for that)
This was an ok read. But I have read books scarier than this one and that probably was the problem I had with this book. I hate to say it but I had to skim through the uninteresting parts to get to where the good bits were and then they turned out to be ok bits.
For the first time reader of haunted house books, it might be scary. But [b:Hell House|33547|Hell House|Richard Matheson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1384259876s/33547.jpg|804298] and [b:The Haunting of Hill House|89717|The Haunting of Hill House |Shirley Jackson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327871336s/89717.jpg|3627] scared me much more. But I read them long ago and pretty much early in my reading experience and the effects were strong. If I were to first read them now, I am not sure how much they would frighten me. But just thinking about them makes me shudder.
I think it works better if there is a slow build up and the gore at the beginning, while it does snap the attention, doesn't really help when the build up of the story comes after it.
In addition, this was a religious haunting in a way and nothing about the characters' faith came out. It was used as a convenient backdrop, but not really explored except for a few sentences towards the last part of the book. It was based in Scotland and no one thought to talk to a Minister about what was going on? I am just saying....
