Where the crawdads sing reminded me to the illusion of The great alone by Kristin Hannah. Descriptions of nature are so different yet the same. The only true difference might be the climate.

I don't think that I would enjoy this book so much if it wasn't for the writing. It's so expressive, harsh but intimate. I love the details and it amuses me that I don't feel overwhelmed by them, nor do I feel bored. Delia Owens takes her time to introduce the reader to the world the main character lives in, her features, and her behavior in different situations. Kya is a misunderstood, abandoned, hurt and brave girl who manages to grow up very quickly without anyone's help. I'm proud of her and her accomplishments, but question some of her choices as well. Kya has such a huge development as a character, she is written astonishingly which might be the reason I loved this book so much.

What makes this story even more likable is the ENDING. It was unconventional but sympathetic at the same time and I think it provided the reader with that kind of closure everyone needs after reading a good book.
