This edition to the series was not a hit for me, I liked both characters enough but the main "conflict" was kind of just not talking to each other? The tropes in this one are not my favorites either I am not a big fan of fake dating or sex lesson stories.

Hockey goalie Eric Bennett has been single now for over a year. He now feels ready to explore his bisexuality, but he doesn't know where to start.

Enter Kyle Swift, who takes it upon himself to show Eric the ropes. Kyle brings Eric out to find someone who interests him. But when Eric's shyness and inexperience gets in the way, Kyle suggests they practice on each other ;). The plan is a friends with benefits type of deal.

Of course, the two develop real feelings for each other. It was inevitable from the banter they have whenever they're together, and not to mention all the steamy sessions.

The main conflict is that Eric is 41 and Kyle is 25. And while Kyle is into older guys, Eric feels guilty about the age-gap. This is where my rating for this book fell a bit. It felt like the same thing kept happening: They'd get together and then one of them would feel guilty for a valid reason, but they wouldn't communicate so it kept happening.

I really loved Eric and Kyle together so the miscommunication did get a little frustrating, but it didn't take away too much from my enjoyment of the book!

Also, I love that people from previous books show up a lot here!

This one had too much “will they, won’t they” and a lot of angst for me to really get what I was looking for from it. I’m not into the age gap personally, but Reid once again wrote a good book with a genuine feeling relationship.

maria deciding to actually help people (god do i love this woman) instead of becoming a cop is the single greatest thing to ever happen in game changers universe

ILYA ROZANOV IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. i trust he knows this yes? yes.

kyle is 25 which means his brain is grown and he is 100% entitled to his mistakes. i don’t know, i didn’t like eric. i didn’t disliked him either. he was so insignificant in his own damn story. it’s kind of disappointing.

Summary: After the end of his marriage, and facing his last season of professional hockey, reserved (closeted bisexual) Eric meets academic bartender Kyle.  Eventually, they agree to a sex coaching relationship before becoming closer.

Stats: CR/Sports - Hockey, M/M, age gap, part of a series but stands alone, open door.

Notes: Really… a 97% breakup?  I really didn’t enjoy this book much - I find the trope a bit clunky (but needed it for a challenge), the characters were boring to me (and way too perfect), the conflict was pretty silly and WAY too late (97%), and there was no building of the actual relationship after the conflict for me to buy an HEA.  To me, this reads like a midlife/change of life crisis that both characters will eventually move on from.

OTT and Spoilery Content Notes:
SpoilerCareer tension, divorce, alcohol, some teasing about age, lightly closeted bisexual mmc, light family estrangement, mentions of homophobia in sports, mmc had a relationship his an older married employer as a teenager and was outed when it blew up and sort of run out of town, RICH PEOPLE PROBLEMS, casual use of "twink"- not intended as derogatory, anal sex/play, restraint with hands, honour bondage, light power play (younger dom/older sub), bondage, blindfolding
