Personally, I think this was very overhyped. It’s a decent read but nothing special.

Great YA story about following your dream and finding your way. I loved the way food and family infused every feeling and every sentence. This was inspiring, real, and mouth watering.

I listened to the audiobook, and I loved it! My only critique, is that as someone who works with food... I wish it was more... Fragrant. It really captured the feeling of feeling like you can make things taste better when you taste them. But I really wanted to smell the things. It would say "lavender" but I wanted it to be more flowery with the description, so I could feel the smell blanketing my senses... Or when she ate, rather than naming the spices and things, describing the flavors itself.

But, it did make sense for the character, who probably didn't know those flowery words enough for them to be her internal dialogue.. So it makes sense, but I would have loved this book just that much more if I could really taste and smell the atmosphere ☺

The perfect comfort read - full of heart and warmth and delicious food descriptions (plus recipes!). The writing is lyrical, poignant, and evocative. Highly recommend!
