This variation of Pride and Prejudice took a little getting used to because of the setting (Wyoming). I found this along with name & other changes caused me to pause during reading to wrap my brain around the differences. It wasn't always a smooth pause point and interrupted the flow of what could have been a good story had it not been touted as a variation. The characters were likeable and I was entertained throughout the entire book but it didn't grab my heart and mind like the original work. It felt like I was looking through curtains and blinds instead of an open window. I think if I had been able to stop making the comparisons, this book would have rated higher and this review would have been written differently.

This wasn't my typical genre. But I enjoyed the trip to the wild west and the quick courtships that happened before marriage and how strongly the mama's flirted on their daughters' behalf to get them married off! A quick fun read.

I wasn't expecting to like this book, but I was curious since it was the Big Library Read for this month. And I do like Jane Austen adaptations. It was very cute. Much more fast paced than Austen, such is contemporary vs. classic fiction, but a fun read. I liked the way Darcy and Bingley were written - Austen only let us in on what the women were thinking and it's helpful to glimpse the motivations of the men rather than only seeing their pride. I also appreciated that Collins was already married (he is by far my least favorite part of Pride and Prejudice). While we all knew how this would end, the changes were amusing, particularly how everyone needed to be nursed back to health at some point in the story (not just Jane) and the intriguing backstories for each character.

I read this book as part of a library "Big Reads" program. The story is based on Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen however set in the 1800's in Wyoming. I liked it. It was a cute, clean take on the novel and I liked the author fleshing out more of Jane's character which we don't get in the original. Unfortunately, it just seemed like the author was bending the story to fit P&P rather than trying to come up with something original.

The other reason for a 3 rather than 4 rating is I was disturbed by the number of grammatical mistakes in the Kindle version. Most of these mistakes were inserting the wrong word which only a good editor would pick up and not a spell check.

Thus was a Big Library Read. Why? Needs editing. Silly story. A waste of my time.

Read it because it is the selection for the big library read. As a retelling, it is not bad, although not as good as the original, of course. It was a light and quick read. She respected the personality of the main characters, and that is the most important point for me. It was more simple, and we got to see more of Darcy point of view. All in all it was ok.
