This book is about David Wilkerson's journey to NYC and his encounters with the young gang members there. One of the main guys in the book is Nicky Cruz, who wrote the book One Holy Fire then. It's a good book and gives a good background if you are going to read Nicky's book then. I liked it.

Incredibly powerful story of how God called a country preacher to move to New York City and work with troubled teens caught up in gangs and drug addiction.

I loved this book. Read it when I was young and vividly remember seeing the movie with Erik Estrada. I've been to Wilkerson's church a couple times on Times Square. He is a interesting man, with little love in his heart for the Catholic Church.

I think this story focuses a lot on the power of intentions...if you build it they will come sort of thinking. I believe in this power. If you speak something aloud, whether it be in prayer or just wishing on a star it is made more powerful. Our hero, David Wilkerson, is a preacher, so for him these good intentions were a gift from God and the Holy Spirit... to another it might be Allah or just good luck. Whatever you wish to call it, miracles happened. I say this book is more about the effect one person can have if they believe. Truly inspiring, even 50 years later.

It got a bit Bible preachy in the last couple chapters...so I skimmed more than read.

This is a truly moving and powerful story and I think it will affect each reader differently. What really spoke to me was the fact that David kept 'putting the fleece before the Lord' and was blessed abundantly when he did this. It has encouraged me to consider praying out loud more and to not feel shame or embarrassment about praying for things. After-all in order to receive we must ask.

not bad book but it leaves out the detail that Nicky Cruz beat the crap out of him then he David smiled and said he loved him, not Nicky slapping him like the book says.
