What a lovely little book! Brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. A brilliant idea the author had for a typewriter in the bookstore. What a little gem of a book.

I can't believe Borders has been closed for 9 years. I can't believe Literati's been open for 8 years. This quick read has my mind reeling with memories of Sundays at the book store with my mom and filled with pride for the city of Ann Arbor and its legacy of books.

Love, love, love this little book. Another goodreads give-away, this little gem is filled with anonymous notes from the visitors to an independent bookstore. Short essays have been added in giving depth to the random typed sentiments from strangers. This touching book offers a few chuckles, some phrases to make you think, others to offer some inspiration, and a handful of notes that will bring tears to your eyes.

'Notes from a public typewriter' by Gustafson and Uberti was a quirky and quick read; wish it was a little longer with some more back stories or even more info about what captivates strangers to share intimate and personal thoughts. I learned to type on a manual olivetti typewriter so it took me back.

This book reminds me so much of what Brene Brown says in the book Daring Greatly that stories are just data with a soul. Upon opening Literati Bookstore in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Mike Gustafson, began an experiment. He put out a typewriter with a sheet of blank paper in the basement of the bookstore waited to see what would happen.

What happened has been the story of this bookstore. The story is that it is made of stories. Not just inside the books. But in the people who make up this wonderful, thriving community. The stories will make you laugh, cry, and sigh with contentment. And maybe even come visit Ann Arbor and add a story of your own.
