2.5 Stars...the FMC is slightly annoying. I understand this book had to layout the story.. but.. I felt it was slow.. then the ending.. it just ends abruptly.

Got about 3/4 of the way through the first one and just… I can’t. I’ve read some rough books in my time and been able to forgive a lot in deference to decent plot, or decent characters, or even a modicum of interest. This one was both poorly written and poorly executed. Not even worth a skim read to try and finish.

Not quite as good as the other series, but I liked it so far and I think the story has potential.

Decent
Overall, this was a decent Academy read and a good start to an intriguing series. Mauve is an interesting character with strong opinions and a clear cut way of looking at things, something that may hinder her in the world she has suddenly found.
Pros:
- World building is on point.
- The Academy stands out among other academy books.
- The other characters bring life to the narrative.
Cons:
- Mauve is a bit TOO clear cut. One part seems to be intended to show her morality and staunch belief in right and wrong; instead, it showcases her nativity and ignorance, not to mention the stark danger of her immaturity. This happens at least twice.

Nightworld Academy: Term One by LJ Swallow is a new upper YA/NA series of magic academy books that I listened to on audio narrated by Sarah Colton and Steve Campbell.
This is the first book of LJ’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The story does end on a cliffhanger so I can’t wait to dive into Nightworld Academy: Term Two.
Sarah and Steve did an amazing job on the narration. They really made the story come to life with their accents and tones for each character.
