The world of this book absolutely captivated me. I truly enjoyed observing Scarlett throughout her time in Caraval. The ending made me feel satisfied while still yearning for more time with the characters. One character I felt very drawn to was Legend, he has absolutely amazing character traits. Somehow he is ever-present in the game while also feeling distant. I will absolutely pick up the next book in this series.

I enjoyed reading. Scarlett and Julian are great together and I Iiked the way Scarlett got more and more courageous. The game itself was not what I expected. It felt dark, twisted and dangerous, but that might be because you experience it through Scarlett's eyes and she is almost constantly scared, worried or full of doubt.
SpoilerThe way the book dealt with suicide and death didn't sit right with me. Scarlett's sister Tella was like: "I am gonna kill myself, but you just have to love me enough to bring me back..." Please No!

I devoured this book. The second book was a ~3 week wait on the Libby app and I couldn’t wait so I may have just bought the whole trilogy digitally.😬😅
.
Caraval kept me on my toes the entire time. I’m sure I missed things because I was so caught up in it. There were times when I thought I had things figured out, and then I got thrown for a loop. I love the diversity in the characters. You’re never really sure if you love or hate a character. It’s a dark, mysterious, fast paced fantasy with romance. I cannot wait to see where Legendary takes me!

Caraval is a great read for those who love magic, especially if you have read the Night Circus. A circus type game with high stakes for failure, this book will have you rooting for the main character all the way.

What made this book even more interesting for me was I read it as a buddy read, so I was constantly looking for answers to questions and trying to puzzle out the bigger plot points of the book, without this I don't think I would have rated Caraval 3 stars. I enjoy worlds with magic and as Caraval appears to be the only place within this world setting that magic exists makes it more intriguing and drives a want to understand why and how it can happen in this world. It was an easy read and felt like you were flying through the pages!

On the other hand, some of the characters could have been more thought through, Donatella's character was just straight up unlikable for me, but so where aspects of Scarlett's personality, though I think her character growth over the novel does help make up for this. I would have liked to have seen other characters given more "screen time" and not just be around for a few pages for a massive plot point and then to just disapear.

Overall, I enjoyed this, but at times I felt like one too many things was happening and some of the information towards the end felt very rushed, especially compared to the pacing of the rest of the book.
