"Emperor of the Fireflies" is, much like the first book in the series, fine. The story is pleasant enough, but unfortunately it is lacking something that I can't quite put a finger on. It would have been greatly improved if a little more effort had been made during editing.
The characters tend to have only one personality trait each and so growth is limited.
