"I'm not reading between the lines," Wallace replied. "I'm reading the lines."

I told him people I talked to were saying the presidential race between him and Biden was now a coin toss.

"You know, maybe," he said. "And maybe not."

That sounded like a good description of a coin toss.

Maybe this would have been shocking if 95% of the "revelations" in this book hadn't played out in real time in front of all of our eyes. This information isn't getting through to the people who need to hear it. And the politicians who have the ability to impact this are doing nothing.

Not to knock Bob Woodward as this is a compelling work from an accomplished journalist. It's just the problems we are having can't be countered with any book no matter what it reveals.

For a book about a rageful man, the copy was dry and emotionless. Woodward's biggest issue seemed to be his frustration at getting Trump to stick to the subject.

I couldn’t have finished this book at a stranger time. Turned the last page yesterday and awoke to find Trump has contracted the coronavirus. I don’t probably need to even say how many times in the book Trump states, “Don’t worry about the virus Bob. It’ll go away. I don’t wear a mask because I’m just not worried about it. Just wait...it’ll just go away.”

Interesting, to a point. Although Woodward offers brief judgments throughout and at the end, reading the meticulously transcribed evasions and prevarications Trump presents over and over again in their interviews, the book frequently feels more like an apologetic than insightful journalism.
