This is a son's loving tribute to his father, the maverick film maker William "Wild Bill" Wellman (1896-1975) who had also been a fighter pilot in the Lafayette Flying Corps during the First World War, experiencing combat with a French unit on the Western Front. What makes this story even more compelling is that parts of it are told by Wellman himself, who was always one to speak his mind.
