This book made me straight up cry. Not just slip a tear, but actually cry.

Well done, Ms DeStefano. This was awesome in the most literal sense.

This is a book that you need to read in your life. It’s full of love. It IS a bit sad, but it’s so worth it! I cried more than I have in ANY other book, but I loved it so much. It was amazing. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year (and this is number 108). Read it. It’s amazing.

I don’t read sad books often. I read to find other worlds and to see characters overcoming challenges. They came be huge challenges that involve life-or-death stakes. These are different than my trials, but they help just the same. This was different, but in a good way. Sometimes, I need something that hits more close to home. Something that targets my fears, but shows how those can be overcome, too, with time.

This was a beautiful book, one that I will treasure. DeStefano managed to capture emotion just as well as Sharon Creech, and that is a HIGH bar. Thank you, author, for this wonderful book.

Recommended for those who like sad stories that get better, “Walk Two Moons,” by Sharon Creech, real life with just a touch of fantasy, and Sharon Creech in general.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This book was so very sad, but so beautiful at the same time.

This one will require hand-selling at the library, but will be perfect for anyone who likes sad stories, character-driven stories, or just a hint of fantasy.

Her middle grade books need to come with a box of tissues because I'm running out over here. WHY DO YOU HAVE TO MAKE THEM SAD FOR LAUREN!?!?! WHY!?!?! My poor little heart can't take anymore and it's already a shriveled little piece of coal...

But her middle grade books are wonderful though. I just felt like this one was really short and rushed.

If you could bring back a loved one, would you? What price would you be willing to pay?

Started reading and couldn't stop. Finished it in an hour, but it didn't feel like a fast story... left me feeling older and sadder and wiser than when I turned the first page. I won't soon forget Emmaline, Oliver, Gully and their troubles with the Ghost Machine.

I'm not really sure what to say about this one right now or how to rate it. It ended up being a very different book than I thought it was going to be. It has good messages about losing those we love and the memories they leave us with and saying goodbye and moving on but the entire book is horribly sad and full of death. Not a light read at all.

Another winner

I devoured this book in mere hours. All the feels. Having just lost my own mother, I found it very comforting.
“She’s still here,” Gully said, as though it were a simple truth, like the time or the weather. “The time you did have with her makes you who you are. So she’s alive as long as you’re alive.”
