I absolutely LOVED this book and could not put it down once I started! Silas is an amazing badass, who has gone through a lot but still manged to find her clan. I love all the guys, especially Kane with his Southern drawl. The world building was phenomenal, and character development was fantastic! Cannot wait to read part 2!

There isn't much to state about this book, really.

The beginning of the book is a bit rough for our FMC, Sila. She starts at a school full of predator shifter students, all of them of the feline variety. Cheetahs, leopards, lions, etc. She gets into it with a lioness shifter, Catherine, who believes herself to be the queen of the school and better than lower-class, smaller feline shifters (and everyone else, for that matter). Sila stands her ground and puts her in her place, but Catherine is less than pleased.

While at this school, she also meets her mate. He ends up rejecting her, and between that and Catherine, she snaps. Sila is then sent to another school for Mythical and "Altered shifters," where she meets three men who decide to take her under their protection.

Each of the men have gone through some trauma of some sort, which is what let them to be where they are now and who they are. We learn each of their stories, and they're definitely all pretty sad. Check out the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book if you have any, just to be sure any you have aren't mentioned in this book.

The ending sort of fell flat for me. Theoretically, you don't even need to read the second one if you aren't feeling it. There's no cliffhanger, and for anything that hasn't been answered yet (which will be in part 2), you can just make up your own ending or ignore it all together. You aren't left screaming to know what happens next. It's a bit disappointing and isn't actually making me rush to start the second one. The only reason I'm going to is that I'm curious to see what happens with Catherine, which I'm sure will be mentioned again.

Not a bad book. Not a great book either. It reads well at first. But then I feel like halfway through the book I get a draft copy. I felt like things were missing that should have been included. The first half of the book dragged on and was well written and had such great character building. But when it comes time to build the relationships between the main characters - its left out. They meet. They finally get to talk. And bam. Now she is one of them and they are planning on becoming mates. It just felt like the author was in a rush to get it done and over with.
Kinda makes me hesitant to read the next book.

Given the context that I’ve been unable to get more than a few chapters into the last couple of books I’ve picked up, the fact that I found this duet as a whole to be such a smooth and enjoyable read should speak for itself.

The character(s) who deserve it get their comeuppance by the end of book two (and can I just say how satisfying I found it that the FMC gathered/provided evidence against her enemies that disproved the bullsh*t narrative they tried to spread. Every. Single. Time.).

My only real issue was with the steamy scenes, and that the dirty talk was a bit cringy to me.

great first book

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a unique take on shifters and I liked the world building. Silas is a great main character and I the guys were perfect for her.

I also liked that it did not end in a cliffhanger but left enough questions that I immediately preordered the next book.

good read

This was a good read, went quick to me imo. I wish there was a bit more connection between the 3 guys and Sila, it felt like insta love, although there is nothing wrong with that. I love seeing POC main characters!
