I picked this up because two of my friends are in love with this series. One of them even read the first chapter to me one morning as we were eating breakfast at her house.

It was cute! I wish more books with lesbian protagonists could be written with more successes and fewer tragedies. I do with Jae would write less and say more, because it felt like half the book didn't add to the plot or character development of Luke or Nora in any significant way. Despite all its charm, at one point I just wanted the book to reach some kind of point! The tension (not all sexual) seemed to drag on forever!

I realized recently that Jae probably wrote Luke as an idealized, fantasy version of herself and wrote Nora as a fictional representation of her dream girl. I think that's kind of adorable.

I recently read this for the second time. My first read through was good, but I think I enjoyed it more the second time.

I really love the story. The character development is just so beautiful. The slow burn was slower than what I'm accustomed to, but it was definitely worth waiting for.

I usually don't cry when I read, but some parts got me feeling a little emotional.

A fantastic book. Great characters and plot. Andy and I discuss it on episode 16 of Cocktail Hour: http://www.cocktailhour.c-spot.net/archives/66 and Nikki and I review it on C-Spot Reviews: http://reviews.c-spot.net/archives/4746.

**1/27/16 - time for a reread of one of my absolute favorite books of all time. I'm always so damn sad when the book is over.**

**7/27/21 - will definitely be sticking to either eyeball or text to speech reading from now on. The regular mispronounced words was too much.**

It was amazing. I loved that gender and sexual orientation of Luke was not specific. And whole journey was just amazing. I was biting nails and praying that they would reach Oregon safely. Nora while portraying feminine qualities was so strong mentally. I loved that the characters just didn't accept Luke's identity and it took some or long time to accept him/her.

Felt very surreal in a way, kind of like Westworld but without the trauma or the sci-fi aspects. I enjoyed this one and got nearly half way through the book in the first day simply because it caught my attention, which a lot of books haven’t lately. I feel like the little bit of sexual stuff was just too soon? Or maybe just not soon enough? I think having the one time they have sex be directly connected to the babies arrival was very jarring and for me, killed the vibes for the sex scene completely. I dont think I’ll check out the sequel but I think I might look into the offshoot of their granddaughter instead

It has been two days since I finished this novel but I'd be lying if I said that I'm over it. I'm not. In fact, I'm still stupefied by how much I adored nearly every aspect of this story. I took great pleasure in how Nora and Luke's relationship became one of mutual trust, even through the deception that was perfectly understandable, in Luke's perspective. Every conflict brought about by a third party was resolved in such a masterful way that I was in disbelief over how easy it was to solve, without it giving the impression that it was a weak compromise.

And in many ways, every event in this story felt right. As if everything that should happen, happened. I took notes in pacing, for sure.

This book was read through Faberry goggles, so that might have aided its cause.

The only reason I knocked it back to four stars is because the prose was good - it served its function. It was clear, concise. No complaints. It didn't change my life like [b:The Last Nude|10836810|The Last Nude|Ellis Avery|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1561998393l/10836810._SY75_.jpg|15467346] by [a:Ellis Avery|26770|Ellis Avery|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1428814695p2/26770.jpg] did, but I can't expect that all the time, can I?
