When I started reading this book I wasn't sure I was going to like it. The first few chapters were focused on setting up the characters and the romance part took a large place in it. I'm not a romance reader so that made me wonder if I was going to be able to read it through. Things changed from Chapter 6 or so and I began to read more quickly as I was getting into the story.
Emerge is not your typical "hero's journey" book. The plot revolves a lot on how Allie learns to get on with her new life and all the emotions she feels. I do believe it was a bit unbalanced between action and background (for my taste). That being said, I grew attached to the MC and I really wish to follow her on her journey through the next books. I think the next one should be more action packed as I feel the first book's mission was to setup the tone and setting for the whole series. Anyway, I will be happy to find out about it myself as I intend to read it too.
The book was well written and I would gladly recommend it to anyone who loves a paranormal-YA-romance-packed novel.

I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

I just love the protagonist in this book. She is strong, but not a bitch. I liked how she handled the new things and surprises in life. The book is well written en quick paced.

I have to say I am pretty conflicted about this novel rating.

I really enjoy the cover, I think it's quite beautiful. I like the premise of immortals and having different powers that emerge throughout their life times.

Allie as a character I enjoyed because she was going through so much change throughout this first novel. I thought all the training chapters were a bit too much because they became pretty repetitive, and it always ended with Allie crying and being emotional.

I think my favourite part of this story was Adian, and his relationship with Allie. I would definitely want to read more and see what happens with the characters.

However, I can't quite put my finger on it, but something held me back from loving this novel. Possibly just the way Allie talks to Vince and then also has a physical and emotional relationship with Adian; either way the story was decent; a lot of characters to work with moving forward.

I think this is a pretty solid start for this multi book series.

I just could not enjoy the writing style. The pacing and the relationships were weird to me. We see her lonely with no friends to her name. Then, skip ahead to her being surrounded by friends and two guys trying to win her heart. Where did that come from? How did it develop? No idea because the book never says.
I see a lot of positive reviews on here, so I am guessing that it is just my personal tastes. If gaps in story and little character development isn't a problem with the books you enjoy reading, then go ahead and pick this one up.

I want to thank the Author Melissa Craven for a copy for review.

This was an amazingly well paced novel that had me hooked from the beginning. I felt Allie’s annoyance straight away about moving but really enjoyed the spark of friendship she had with Aiden straight away.

I love the character growth of Allie and her relationships with Vince and Aiden as well as the gifts Allie develops and how she copes after the change. I’m looking forward to the next book to find out what happens next.

This book started off weak, but got better as I read on. The writing in the beginning was very jumpy, going from scene to scene without much lead until or explanation. I hate not finishing books though, so I pushed on. I'm glad I did because an interesting story was found amid the clumsy writing. Hopefully the writing style improves in the next book.

This was such an impressive start to a unique new series. This story was well written but the characters are the true stars, they grew with the story and were portrayed realistically with their stroppy attitudes, tantrums and snark.

We have Allie the protagonist who has always felt alone and distanced from everyone, she’s moved from place to place and is always the new kid in school but the people there are all the same; they shy from her touch and taunt her endlessly. She soon arrives at a town to stay and literally runs into Aiden; a guy that introduces her to what she really is: an Immortal. Allie soon comes into her own powers and discovers she is more powerful than her new friends except Aiden, he's her equal in every way.

It started off a little slow and I wasn't fully immersed in the story until the second half. I was so confused in the beginning when everyone would avoid Allie's touch and we were given no clue as to why this was. However what slowed this book the most was the history of Immortals; how they came to be, their enemies, their way of life. Although some of this was important to the story, not all was necessarily needed. This compared with a large abundance in secondary characters had me troubled trying to remember who everyone was, plus we were given a look into various characters backstory, this again takes up a large amount of the book.

Regardless of these points the story soon picked up and we were thrust into a world were Immortals are hunted for their powers and this was extremely thrilling to read. The romance was good and bad (the good bad), as Allie and Aiden really hit it off in the beginning but when Allie discovers she’s an Immortal she pulls away and just wants to be best friends. The good part of this romance was that Allie and Aiden were equals, which was refreshing as it's usually the heroine who's the most powerful, these two seemed absolutely perfect together. The bad part of this was that Allie refuses to date Aiden and instead dates Vince a mortal as a way to have some normalcy to escape to. Although this drove me crazy because even Allie knew she was settling and could have the perfect relationship with Aiden. This was realistic, as you would completely freak out finding out that you are not human and will never die, this is the type of angst that I love to hate. I totally ship Allie and Aiden but she seriously needs to get her head together and be with Aiden.

Allie was a breath of fresh air when it came to heroines. She was totally badass, not afraid to say it how it is and doesn’t take any bullshit. For instance when Aiden confessed his love to Allie, she was able to take thought and not completely lose herself in the declaration but think ‘well he’s powerful like me, so maybe he’s just tired of being alone?’ I mean Allie is the only person who can touch him without quivering in fear, even his parents keep their distance… so YES, this is a completely valid thought! As I’ve said the character relationships and dynamics in this story feel realistic.

All in all this book wasn’t perfect but it was an excellent start for a debut novel with such original idea’s. I will definitely be reading the next instalment as I’m so eager to find out what happens next as this book was only just getting started by the end. I fully encourage readers to persevere with this one, it's fast paced at time but totally worth it in the end!

Allie Carmichael has never really fit in anywhere, she has tried, but everyone seems scared of her. Aidan McBrien intimidates everyone around him, they just try not to let it show. After Allie runs into Aidan, literally runs into him, neither can guess how much this chance meeting will change the course of their lives.

After Allie’s latent immortal power awakens she will now learn about a heritage and culture that she never knew existed. Thankfully she has Aidan, his family and friends there to help her.

This is such a unique story and I absolutely love it! I don’t read a lot of YA books, but this series absolutely drew me in. I absolutely recommend this book and give it 5 stars.

Took a while to really get good about halfway through. There was a lottttt of exposition. In the end I really love all of the characters, and love the author's message about strong male and female characters. Will definitely read the next addition.
