This didn’t connect as well to me as their others, but still such an interesting premise and striking prose. Not sure why, but it seemed more disjointed than the others by them. Might be on purpose. De Robertis does know how to make some lovable main characters though.

The premise - a young immigrant girl disguising herself as a man to play tango - absolutely fascinated me. And anyone with an interest in the history of tango, immigrant stories in Argentina, and/or queer literature will likely find some amount of a great read in here. It's rather cinematic in scope, and with a classic tango soundtrack this might be more intriguing. I have to agree with a previous reviewer that there's a lot of telling rather than showing. There are a lot of great elements to this story, but for me they didn't quite click in the most satisfying way. However, I did get hooked enough to read it all, and now very much want to read another story set in the early days of tango.
