I love these companion novels, they add so much to the overall story and Carlos’ didn’t disappoint. I loved getting his side and finally seeing all the emotions and feelings he keeps so hidden and why exactly he does that!
He is an amazing, protective, caring, a little ocd werewolf mate and the patience and acceptance he shows Isabelle is beautiful.

4 stars — OK, well, I really had expectations for what I wanted from this book, and while I got a bit of that, it wasn’t enough in my opinion.

Carlos is a VERY mysterious character, and one who makes an impression from the first introduction in Michelle’s book. Grey always hinted at loss and sadness, and his concern always made me curious what happened to make Carlos who he was. And while we get a glimpse into the defining moment in his childhood that seemed to break him, and we find out a secret he’s keeping hidden from EVERYONE I think (though Grey knows a bit on his own, as we learned in Thomas’ book), I just wanted…MORE. This was like all the companion books in that it really didn’t deviate from its companion’s storyline. Which is okay, but…I guess I just didn’t quite get how he was shaped, you know? Why is he so particular? Is it the control he lost in his tragedy? Or what he deals with with the link behind the wall, and it just flooded out into the rest of his life and habits? I guess I needed to be beat over the head with explanations, b/c all I really can do is offer conjecture, and that leaves me so unsatisfied.

I did appreciate learning a bit more from his perspective with how he felt about Isabelle, his pull, the whole chasing thing (though, still a bit weird), the Ethan stuff…but it wasn’t, like, a LOT or anything.

So basically, I enjoyed myself, I was wrapped up in the emotions, and curious beyond belief about his secret, and anticipating… And then the ending happened. And I was like wait, what? That’s it?

All I can say is that the way things played out in this book leaves a HEAVY burden on the last book to answer a LOT of questions. I’m getting a bit worried that my expectations are not going to be met… *sigh* So yeah…
