The premise is great, and I did like the book, It does have a lot of problematic language in it (even for 2014).

Spoiler if Roth doesn’t come back, I stg Imma KMS

DNF @ 41%.

How this book has a 4.2 star rating is beyond me. The writing is absolutely atrocious. The lore is confusing. The main character acts like a 6 year old. And the main love interest is a scumbag.
SpoilerI mean, okay, I understand that since Layla is part demon, she can't kiss anyone for fear of sucking out their soul, which as a teenage girl makes life depressing. So it makes sense that the only person it would be fine for her to kiss is another demon. But Roth kissing her, not only after following her around like a stalker, lying repeatedly, making her uncomfortable, and just being an all around creep, but without her consent made me want to throw the book at the wall. And this is the guy we're supposed to be rooting for? No thank you.

I've decided I'm loving myself enough in 2021 to not suffer through books that only make me want to claw my eyes out. Happy Valentine's Day.

THIS BLOODY BOOK. Still haven't stopped crying since finishing it?
Jennifer L Armentrout is exceptionally good at writing intricate storylines and "swoon-worthy" guys - I'm always dumbfounded whenever I read one of her books. This book was amazing. I loved every single one of the characters (even the ones I hated?) and the plot was awesome - demons are like my all time favourite supernatural beings, so yea I totally loved this book. Speaking of Supernatural, there were so many references to the TV show with the impala and Roth speaking of the pentagram, omg I loved it. But I HATE THE END - why did you have to do that, Jennifer????????? I need book two rn lmao.

Interesting, but also def meant for a younger audience. I think I just really don't like how a lot of paranormal romances portray teens? Like it would've been fine reading it when I was younger but I think just reading through these teen's thoughts just makes me realize how cringy or immature they are. Which yeah why am I reading YA then? Because the step up from that is too much usually lol
But anyways, I did like the whole plot and the main character and the guy who's name I already forgot. I might read the sequel in the future just to see where it goes
