First of all, I didn't know this artist, so It was a pleasant surprise to meet him. Second of all, the way the collection was presented was quite original. I loved it so much, that I bought the book featured by the museum, and if i liked the exhibition, the book i absolutely loved. It has not only amazing photographs, but also quite descriptive chapters of James's work and techniques, also a brief biography.
Regarding the artist what I can tell you is this he was clearly at the cutting edge, constantly working with new elements (such as the zipper) and rethinking his construction. The book describes him as a "sculptor" of the body. He was also considered an "engineer" of fashion for his ability to construct and plan the garment. He wasn't quite known, because his work used to be for private and wealthy clients. But because of this he was able to study the woman body in detail, and also develop interesting technique and beautiful work. He worked directly on the body, always keeping and eye in its movement and geometry.
