This was an excellent series with a wonderful slow-burn relationship between the main characters. There's a lot of emotional complexity here but none of it felt gratuitous or overdone, both the characters were well-motivated and well-intentioned and their difficulties made sense to me. And of course the author provides the requisite emotional follow-through. I would highly, highly recommend this series!

AhhH! So good! The story continues in this, and it was just as captivating and page turning as the first one.
David and Murdo haven't seen each other for two years, but once they do, it's almost as if no time has come and gone between them - the passion, attraction, burgeoning love, is still there between them.
And this time David is more accepting of what they're doing, of being a man attracted to other men. Now it isn't really their differing views on life - David thinking he needs to be ashamed of wanting men, Murdo thinking they should both be married to a woman - threatening to keep them apart, but merely that Murdo lives in London, and David in Edinburgh.
David believes now, not that all there can be is fumbles in a dark alley and the like, but that a few nights is all he has left with Murdo.
I loved that David got to a place, though, in this one where he craved to be fucked by Murdo, and he asked for it, wanted it. He was ready for it - and it was amazing when it happened.
The plot continued to be intriguing in this installment. Things are falling out from the previous book. Elizabeth is now married to a very not good or nice man. Euan returns from London where he is a journalist for a newspaper that is radical, and he is being watched by the government. And with the King visiting Scotland, the city is bustling with people and activity.
When David learns of what is happening to Elizabeth, and that Euan wishes to save her - for he has fallen for her - he concocts a plan to get her away from her abusive, domineering husband.
I found myself, while reading that plot, going "ahhH! What will happen next!" it was edge-of-your-seat good.
And everything with David and Murdo - their deepening connection, their great chemistry, their passionate encounters, I loved it.
They still have quite a bit to figure out and work through, but I think that by the end of this they are in love, they both just don't know it yet.
At least they didn't end this book apart as they did in the last one.
I was bummed when the first two weeks of Murdo being back in Scotland, after they saw each other the first day, was them not seeing each other. I felt like yelling at them, especially David since Murdo basically put the ball in his court, "you're wasting time!" but eventually David just can't stay away.
Wonderful second installment. I loved it! Can't wait to get to the last one! Definitely recommend :D
