"Life is hard. The road is long and winding, and the path to the promised land is not always clear. Nonetheless, hard lives are beautiful in their own way. Wanderings are instructive in their own right... God's ability to redeem broken things gives my father's life meaning."
I wasn't sure how I'd rate this book until I got to the beautiful final chapter and conclusion. McCaulley writes of his family's struggles in such a tender way. It also touches on faith and being Black in America.
I heard about this book on the Holy Post podcast. I listened to the audiobook.

A beautifully written memoir of Blackness in the American South and the societal factors that fail to support and actively oppress Black people, through the lens of a nuanced personal experience. The author writes with great care and insight in his reflections.
