This isn't my first time reading Edgar Allan Poe. I've been a fan for years and always enjoy his works. I've already read most of the works in this book but still enjoy re-reading the ones I've read before and the new ones. It's filled with lots of his popular works like, "The Raven" and "Annabel Lee". This is a great starter book if you wanna give him a try, between his writing and the art mashes well. Artist W. Heath Robinson did illustrations for this book, in the ARC I got didn't have much of the art but what I did see was beautiful.

Overall this is a good book to read, I wanna get a physical copy because I'm sure it will be very pretty.

I received a NetGalley ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This doesn't in any way influence my opinion on it. So, this is a 100% honest review by me.

I feel like no one believes I'm well read in poetry when I say Edgar Allen Poe is my favorite poet. He's too mainstream. Oh, how poor e-boy Edgar would hate me for calling him that. Anyway, I actually have read a fair share in my day, and EAD still slams the dunk like no one else. It's probably part nostalgia (a complete collection of his poems was my first poetry book I read to completion) and part genuine love for the guy's creativity. Although tbh his most popular poems are not his best work imo and it genuinely confuses me. Like "The Raven"? Tf is that. I like "Serenade", and "Alone" (The one that remained unpublished until 1875, not to be confused with the "Alone" later renamed and revised repeatedly until reaching it's final form as "To____" in 1828/9, which is my favorite poem of all time.), "Evening Star", etc. I have those all memorized actually, they're that fun. If you don't like him as a poet, give those a try. Much better.

Although not all of the poems in this collection are great, Poe was nonetheless as extraordinary poet, and pieces like "The Conqueror Worm", "A Dream Within a Dream", and "The Valley of Unrest" have stood the test of time with no loss of the dramatic power that their literary reputation suggests.

As a bonus, the two included essays "The Poetic Principle" and "The Philosophy of Composition" are both excellent, with the latter providing a writer's notebook on the creation of that most famous of American verses, "The Raven". Poe's detailed explication of the birth of that classic work makes for an interesting journey of discovery, and the author's comments on poetic taste and style retain an authenticity even decades after the advent of free verse.

I haven't read Poe since high school and I am remembering how much I love his writing. He can have such an impact in so few words. Some poems I didn't like but some I loved.

This book is the definition of shitty Goodreads average rating, (4,38 really?). Just so we're clear I'm not talking about the poems from Poe here. I review this specific edition by Dover which is nothing more then a scam. Half the book is a catalog of their publication and the poems of Poe look like they have been copy on a damn copy machine, seriously we see the difference of tone it was clearly scanned. It's just a shame to call that a book and made people pay 10$us for that. Read Poe if you want, he is a writer that has made his mark, like it or not, but please don't get this edition!
