What did I just read/look at? Flying frogs on lily pads and flying pigs. Illustrator was a genius.

Um. Can I just say that this book is a Big Mood?? What a great X-Files, frog-themed book this is. Honestly, if I had the money, I’d probably get one of those frogs tattooed on my somewhere. That’s how awesome this book is.
Wordless and weird would be the two words I’d use to describe this. Filled only with images from Wiesner’s imagination as something strange happens on Tuesday, this is truly an artful, fun and adventurous romp. And speaking of artful–the originals for this picturebook are absolutely stunning. I’m just so glad Wiesner decided to create this book, because he certainly has an affinity towards the strange and unexplained (the truth is out there).

Frogs rise up out of their ponds on a random Tuesday night, fly through the air of their lilly pads, and have all kinds of adventures in the neighborhood. Wisner's signature watercolors put the reader right in the action: we get a frog's eye view of the experience. This is a great example of dramatic irony as well, since we know what happened that night, but the policeman doesn't!
See Wiesner's website for an explanation of his process in creating this book.

I read this book at least once a week as part of my job. The illustrations are nice, and with only a few words, it's fun to ask kids to describe what they think is going on

Another beautifully illustrated wordless picture book (may like it even better than Flotsam).
Once I began reading, I realized that this book was shared with me in elementary school. I remember being fascinated by the story, but also terrified by the idea of flying frogs because I did not like them.

That was delightful! The title is could fool you into thinking this a book about ordinary things that happen on an ordinary day, but don't let it. In this almost wordless picture book Wiesner takes his readers on an adventure sure to amuse young and old. Also a great book for inferencing, (as are many wordless or almost wordless books).
