The first half of the story I really enjoyed, the second half is where the book basically fell apart for me. Overall while the second half fell short I do hope the author writes more books because I did enjoy her writing. I don’t want to put to many details that could possibly spoil the book but if you like True Crime podcasts and the such I think this book would be right up your alley.

Don't read if you're in book club!!
I enjoyed this book for the thrill of the story. Definitely a page turner! I did think by the end the constant twist-and-turn was poking at my suspended disbelief. I also didn't feel satisfied with the ending because there were too many characters/elements that are introduced to the story throughout but seem forgotten about by the finale. With the ending being what it was, I really missed that feeling of wrapped-up resolution. I really enjoyed reading it; I just wasn't wowed by it.
The CW list definitely makes the story seem more intense than it is; none of those things are explicit.

I'm so so notorious for giving everything 5 stars and it may just be because I love Crime Junkie but this book is now in my top 5. I think it was very well written and the twists all shocked me (even if I did figure out a couple). And THAT ENDING.  Our story follows a duel timeline with Margot in 2019, trying to solve not only the murder of her childhood friend but also the murder of another child; and on the other side we have Krissy in the 90's who discovers her child, January, dead in her own home. This book is so twisty and so great. If you like Crime Junkie (or not, I don't know your life), murder mysteries and shocking twists and turns out of your thrillers, give this book a try. This was Ashley Flowers very first novel and she absolutely killed it in the best way. (Pun intented).

Margot, a crime reporter, returns to her small home town to care for her sick uncle and to look into the 20 year old case of her childhood friend's death.

This book flips between 2 timelines. The past when January is killed and the present when Margot come back to town. Everyone is a suspect and you never really know who to believe. Was it the brother? The mother? A random man?

This was an interesting take on a cold case story, but read very much like JonBenet Ramsey's case.

It had some good twists and turns, but that ending was such a bummer. So anti-climatic. It was a non-ending. I thought I was missing a chapter.

ending  felt like too many twists that didn’t all add up or feel complete. Ending was too graphic for me. No loveable characters
