The narrators of the audiobook had an eloquent and engaging style, with excellent pacing and intonation that really drew me in. While the writing itself was strong, the story did feel a bit slow in some places. I’m not usually a fan of open-ended stories, so the abrupt conclusion left me feeling a bit unsatisfied. I was so close to loving this book, but the ending gave me second thoughts and made it feel somewhat incomplete. Still, it’s an overall good read, just not quite the ending I hoped for.

Would’ve given this a five, except that I was frustrated by the ending. Storytelling was well done. All throughout the book, I had more information than any of the characters at any point in the story, but still, there were multiple red herrings to get through. And even though I had parts figured out in advance, including what really happened that night, which was only revealed at the very end, I was frustrated because there were multiple time lines, and the present time line was too abrupt for me.

I think the book started slow for me and I was kind of concerned because it felt like exactly the JonBenét Ramsey case. With some of the ideas of plagiarism for this author, I was kind of concerned. However, when she finally decides to make this case completely take a different turn from the Ramsey case, that’s what I was able to really enjoy the mystery a lot more. But I still felt so much like the JonBenét Ramsey case that I never fully let go of that feeling. Which is why it’s not five star for me but I definitely couldn’t put it down and I definitely enjoyed it. I actually liked the cliff hanger ending too, it made up for some of the tropes. It left me wondering and I love that.
