The most heartbreaking book I’ve ever read. Words cannot fathom how I felt when reading this beautiful book. The way this book is written is purely artful and I can feel the soul and story behind it all. Callbacks are plentiful and worthy of crying over. The only words I can use for this is, wow.

This book was really hard to read, and although I know it’s a beautiful and impactful story, I found the things described in it to be far too graphic for me. As someone who has experienced some of what is mentioned in this book, the beginning of chapter 7 was really difficult to read and due to recommendations from friends who had read more, I decided I couldn’t handle the lengths this book went. I was reading this for school and had to talk to my teacher and make an exception (and she is beyond amazing for being so accommodating with it) so this was not a light decision. However, if you can handle it, the writing is beautiful and impactful. It will be an experience to read for you and I recommend you to try it if you are able to tolerate what’s in it. Keep in mind the content warnings are understatements for the most part.

I can't believe this is Khaled's first novel... It was amazing, so so incredibly heart wrenching.

I suppose it's really a story of a father and a son in the end. I really enjoyed learning about Afghanistan and it's decline over the years, contextualised within the story.

I resented Amir so so so much at the start but I'm happy he found absolution. My favourite quote from the book by Rahim Khan:

A man who has no conscience, no goodness, does not suffer.

This book made me incredibly emotional. I wish I read it sooner. Really satisfying read, excellent character development, and the writing was beautiful and haunting. I absolutely could not put this book down when I was reading it.

This is a beautifully written, devastatingly sad story that I remember reading and crying over in high school. Back then I probably would have given this book 5 stars. After reading some other reviews, however, I think it's prudent to amend that rating. To quote another person's review: "This is the sort of book White America reads to feel worldly."

I will say, however, that there is a reason that thousands of people have raved about this book. Khaled Hosseini writes gorgeously. I loved this book and his other books as well.
