Despite the content warnings, this was a pretty silly, goofy time. I found the pacing at the beginning to be a bit slow, but things do pick up by the end. The ending also felt a little abrupt, but this is the first book in a trilogy. I've already got the sequel on hold through Libby for when it comes out (as well as book 3). It seems that since this was independently published/available on Kindle Unlimited a few years ago, but now the audiobooks are coming to Libby for free yay~

it's a slowburn but i am fully expecting AKC to give us some extremely hot (kinky) spice in book 2, which i need ASAP PLS.
this was a fun mix of slightly dark fantasy with humor that had me constantly cackling aloud to myself:
“Did you hear that?” Amma’s sharp whisper cut into Damien’s mind as it began to drift into sleep.
He groaned. “You mean that terrifying cry that sounded like a woman being gutted?”
“Yes!”
“No, I didn’t. Go to sleep.”
