short stories on humanness and immigration. love how length and topics differed, from a complex story of femininity and trauma, to a quick portrait of a man who eats hot pockets. very good.

I love Roxane Gay’s writing. I’m not a big fan of short story collections, even though this one did have interwoven characters. Theme of cognitive dissonance between loving one’s country and despising it for the lack of opportunities it offers.

So many stories that are relatable. It's been a long time since a book made me cry and laugh.

It is so good that it would be impossible to pick a favorite story from it.
