Musically, I should hire a tuba to follow me around.

Elsie is so effortlessly hilarious, I love her. Also loved the Olive and Adam's cameo. Don't tell them that possibly I love this book more than I did theirs oops-

I’ve previously been kind of “meh” about Hazelwood’s books but I feel like this might’ve been her best one yet. Likeable, relatable characters for the most part, a realistic story arc and actual real-life issues? Great stuff. Not amazing-life changing, but very solid.

As a physicist, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The characters are so well written and relatable, especially being a non-man in physics. I also finished this in less than 48 hours so…..

First off, I wish there was an appendix for all the physics theorems and axioms she brought up. You cannot mention something and not expect me to be curious. Second, i liked how she tackled the politics and sexism in academia. I think there should be more authors that address these issues for women going into stem. I also hope that these issues are addressed in real life and there are true allies (like Jack) in departments to help address these issues. I wish she wrote more books with characters of color to add some dimensionality to the subject, but adding a character with health issues was a good play (we are anti ablism here). Lastly, I love how jack was secretly in love with Elsie (all men in Ali hazelwood books are obsessed with the women of their desire) but could she make Jack less man handley… I like how Elsie called him out of speaking for her when it came to sex and other things. Not cool dude.

Lastly, I wish we talked about mental health more. Elsie was clearly dealing with some profound mental health issues and I like how Jack wanted to help her through it but he should have also directed her to help. I’m glad the author mentioned she started going to therapy again because she needs it!

I can’t wait to read what she writes next.
