I couldn’t put this down. It was so good! Another amazing book in this series. I need more of this series and this author. So beautiful and romantic, and hard hitting on some difficult topics.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Tucker, the male lead, was devastated when his long term girlfriend broke up with him at the end of high school, having believed they would continue their relationship into college. Now, 2.5 years later, he’s worried he’s going mad because he keeps thinking he sees her on his college campus. Mason, the female lead, didn’t believe their relationship could survive distance and wanted Tucker to be free to experiment and experience things without worrying about her. But she’s never stopped caring about him and now she’s transferred to his college partially because she wants to try again.

Tucker became a recluse when she left him but she convinces him to give it another try. But there are significant lifestyle differences between them and, whilst Tucker is willing to give ground in a lot of ways, he’s very worried about some of the unhealthy behaviours he sees Mason engaging in…

This story is dual POV, well written, and an angsty, second chance college romance. It is drama ridden but age appropriate. I enjoyed Tucker and, whilst he had some unhealthy coping strategies of his own, I understood the choices that he made. I admit I didn’t really like Mason - many of the choices she made she seemed to have no reason for. I disliked her approach to their relationship, given Tucker was very clear about what he want and why - I felt she was disrespectful. Tucker saved the story for me - he was calm, patient, and yet willing to set boundaries and stick to them for his own mental health. I also appreciated that both characters sought outside help from a mental health professional and that this was normalised. I enjoyed Tucker’s friends and appreciated the support networks both characters had built.

I’m gonna steal Tucker Kingsley. This MMC is an absolute teddy bear of a man. He has feelings and emotions and he’s not afraid to take time and space to heal. As much as I liked this book it was mainly because of Tucker. I can honestly say I hate the FMC not only did she hurt the best man she could ask for so she could have random flings and get blackout drunk she waits two and a half years to come back and forces him to admit he still loves her then becomes so emotionally distant that he starts doubting himself and binge eating to make himself feel better. Tells him she loves him and wants nobody else but doesn’t want an emotional connection with sex she wants it to be meaningless. I honestly wish they wouldn’t have gotten back together. He tried to meet her half way their entire relationship and she didn’t. She pushed and pushed even when he asked her to stop. If she was a man and roles were reversed it would be considered harassment.

i usually love a good second chance romance but this one just didn’t do it for me. i didnt hate it, but mason was so annoying, her personality kinda ruined the whole thing for me. it def has potential but the execution wasn’t there for me.

also…for a football romance, there wasn’t a whole lot of football going on, other than a mention here or there that he is on the team (usually it wouldn’t bother me but if i’m reading a football romance i want him to actually be playing football and stuff yk). i thought the first one did a much better job at balancing between their two sports & teams (although i do love an athletic queen so i love that there was some women in sports representation in this one)

anyways 3/5 ⭐️
