3 stars

So I was putting this off because of how much I loved Beth and Ian's book....CAN YOU BLAME ME??!?!?!? They were pure perfection! Their love was beautiful to read about.

That being said, I did like Mac and Isabella too. His struggle with alcoholism and becoming sober was so tough and his love for Isabella was reason for the sobriety. He couldn't lose her and I admired that.

Isabella was a great character but she also wasn't unique or memorable. I feel like she's the run of the mill HR female character. She had strengths but I dunno, she didn't do it for me.

While I did enjoy their growth as a couple and as individuals, I couldn't connect with the characters. I felt bad for their past situations and I felt that they deserved their HEA. I felt that because the book's pacing was a tad bit slow, it was the reason I lost some interest.

So, it's a 3 star read because it failed to keep me hooked. It lacked serious conflict but I did enjoy reading about those Mackenzie Brothers. I will continue the series when I need a Historical romance fix!

As someone who married a man with a drinking problem, I totally get the 'enough' the FMC character experienced with her MMC. These two love each other, but they really need maturity and time to work it out. After a three year separation, Isabella is finally willing to talk to Mac who was left devastated when she exited their marriage.

This book, though over dramatic in some parts, really explored the damage alcohol and immaturity had done to the relationship. Mac, who is a charming and clever painter, never considered how his behavior was hurting his wife. They'd fight and he'd leave. One desertion proved to be too much for Isabella and she leaves the marriage. Our MMC is flawed. Our FMC is young. This book very sweetly reminded us that marriage is hard work. This was low angst and very romantic.

I am fairly sure I don't believe a man would be celibate for three years because he's pining for his wife. Nor did I care for the sudden adoption of a stranger's child, I still found myself really liking this book.

The Madness of Ian Mackenzie was a favorite of mine from this year and this one was equally as good. I am excited to start book 3 in this series!

A lovely second chance romance. Wild bohemian Mac and destined to be a marriage pawn Isabella eloped the night of Isabella's coming out, but six years later they've been separated for over three years, even though they still love each other deeply. The reasons for the separation were devastating and realistic (not cheating). Banter filled and achingly emotional.

This book is about figuring out if you want to fight for your relationship after you've made a mess of it. Isabella and Mac married young and impulsively. They managed for a while but when tragedy struck they fell apart. This is about them finding each other again.
