Since I enjoyed Irani's recent novel [b:The Parcel|28185967|The Parcel|Anosh Irani|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1469409138l/28185967._SX50_.jpg|48207861], I was curious as to his earlier dramatic work (since theatre IS my field). Both plays are intriguing and accomplished, and the second one award-winning. 'The Matka King' is actually very similar to the novel, in that both revolve around a brothel-keeping eunuch and a very young girl being groomed into service. 'Bombay Black' is more fable-like, and concerns the past catching up to a young dancer and her revenge-seeking mother. I felt both plays suffered from rather abrupt and not too convincing endings, 'Bombay Black's being particularly difficult, in that the staging doesn't quite seem to work. But still, both interesting and stage-worthy pieces.
