This story is so confusing with the time jumps and all that I really struggled to finish this one.

Taking the Magical Negro trope (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MagicalNegro) and making it literal, then subverting it, is fodder for this Fantasy story that critiques society. It gets a bit lost in the weeds, though, especially when it plays the Daddy Issues trope straight, undercutting its message. Decent overall, though.

An interesting premise but the jumbled plot and progression leaves a lot to be desired. I won’t be continuing this.

The artwork was beautiful! The writing, not so much. The story was very confusing to me and skipped around too much. I had no idea what was going on for half the book. But the wonderful illustrations made it worth reading for me!
P.S. I can’t believe they were literally magical negroes😭😭

It was a strong start, but it didn't feel like much happened. Though I'll probs stick around for the rest of the series.
