It’s not a big deal, but even though they know all the dinosaurs are females, they flip flop through the whole book say “he” or “she”.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to read this! It's almost the perfect book. The writing style is immersive and engaging, and the subject matter is obviously well-researched. I particularly liked the choices Chrichton made about what scenes to include, especially in the beginning to build exposition and suspense. Every detail felt important and necessary, but not in a way that was too on-the-nose. There wasn't much character development, unfortunately, but that's about what I expected from a thriller that's treated like an epic. I look forward to reading the sequel, and watching the movie for the first time in, like, a decade.

If you're going into this book expecting a play by play of the movie, you're in for quite a surprise. Maybe that's why this book was a bit of a tough read for me since I knew it was different from the film but...wow.
The fact just about everybody dies before they explode the island- I'll be honest, I was not expecting that whatsoever
Overall, it was a good read. Incredibly tense and had me on the edge of my seat multiple times. I'll be honest though, I 100% could have done without Lex's character in this book. Crichton really captured the spirit of an annoying child because I was ready to strangle her at so many points. Aside from that, solid sci-fi read!

It's a pretty scary book. I only reread this because I barely remembered the plot and it scared the shit out of 10-year-old me. It still scared me now but I didn't cry so that's a win.

If you're looking for something with a thorough buildup followed by a steep descent into madness, then this book is 10 billon percent for you.

However, my major gripe with the book is how the author wrote the female characters.
Lex was incredibly annoying
but what annoyed me the most was how
Ellie was sexualised and sorta... overlooked? By other men.

Anyways I found most of
the character deaths
to be well-deserved so yay.
