The queer Ashkenazi fairy tale I’ve been waiting for! This is a less kitschy Jewish Good Omens, both heymish and daring, about immigration, love and identity. I LOVED this book!

Such a sweet sweet book. Felt a little too YA for my tastes, which I absolutely should have realised before I read it, but I absolutely loved reading this :) I've recommended this book to several others already.

Loved the book with Jewish mythology seamlessly integrated into a Jewish immigrant story, intrigue, queer characters. It is VERY similar conceptually to good omens though, almost too much so. But good if you expect that. I wish the queer storylines came into full celebration earlier on but I do like the lead up.

Such a good read. I loved the characters writing, and basically everything about this book. Definitely my favorite fiction read of the year.
It did force me to relate heavily to an angel, which reveals something about how I view myself. However, I don't really know what.

i won this book in a goodreads giveaway, but had had my eye on it for a while beforehand, and this is absolutely my favorite book of 2022!! i don’t even keep track of these things, i just loved this so much.

good omens is one of my favorite books (i mention because this book was recommended for fans of it, and I wholeheartedly agree), and i will be making room on the shelf where all my favorites are so i can put it up there and reread it forever, because this book just brought me so much joy??

i’ve never read a book for older-than-middle-schoolers with so many jewish themes and characters and such before, because i didn’t know they existed outside of literature about the shoah. i had to close the book periodically and just… feel so so so happy that it exists? when the angels left the old country is just so special to me.

i loved little ash and the angel—especially the angel; this is spoiler-free, but some of its scenes just hit really close to home—their relationship was so good, the fact that they are chevrusas… i loved them both a lot!! and rose was so good too :)

i enjoy that there’s a glossary in the back so you can double-check meanings—i had to look at it a few times, and i’m jewish myself!

i have been looking forward to writing this review since i was less than halfway into the book, and had to stop myself so i could articulate all my feelings properly. this is my one of my favorite books of all time, and i’m so so so happy that i got the chance to read it!!!
