3.0

After a rocky start this book finally engaged me, though not totally, thus the three stars.

First, what I like. I like that this is about a young woman who is a spy. She is brave. She is loyal. She is honest about being scared.

Second...well, the events are nearly all accurate.

Third...not much else.

Now, what I did not like. The book's first chapter is a summary of what has lead her up to being a spy, even though this is not being marketed as a sequel. Looking up the author, I learned that there were two other books, including one that is about the young man she has fallen in love with. Not about to seek out that book, but that might be brought to the readers attention. Not necessary to understanding the book, but might give more juice to it.

I commend the author for taking history from 100 years ago and bringing to life. If only some of the dialogue hadn't been so bad, and the protagonist hadn't gone one and on about how she was a spy. We kind of know that, ok?

Thanks to Netgalley for providing this book for an honest review.
