If there was a way to give more than five stars I would. I was so enraptured to see the variety of women included in this book, describing the history of my country in a way that is rarely done. This should be on everyone's - parent, teacher, and human - shelf .

All schools should carry this book! Inspiring to read as a 26 year old; can only imagine how powerful it would be to read as a young child who is still developing their ideas of what it means to be a woman and what they themselves are capable of! Beautiful inspiring work!

POPSUGAR's 2016 Reading Challenge: A book that's under 150 pages.

First of all, this book is WAAAAY under 150 pages, so it sort of feels like cheating. Secondly, I really wonder why I found this book in the regular non-fiction area and not the children's non-fiction area. It's clearly middle grade material. But anyway, it doesn't change the fact that I love all things historical. One of my most prized possession is a Kathleen Krull book I got from the Scholastic book fair in fourth grade titled Lives of Extraordinary Women: Rulers, Rebels. I particularly liked the entry for X, which leaves a space for all of the women who never got credit and for the women who will do amazing things in the future. Be still, my feminist heart.

Loved reading this with my kids. From Angela Davis to Nellie Bly to Temple Grandin, it was fun learning about strong women and how they made a difference. Great talking points as I learned things right along side my kids.

"X is for the women whose names we do not know. It's for the women we haven't learned about yet, and the women whose stories we will never read. X is for the women whose voices weren't heard."

This is really great. Nice blend of well-known figures from history, sports and media as well as potentially lesser known women. The book works on many levels with alphabet spreads with bold illustrations, headline style text of why they're rad, a small paragraph with some intro information and then the rest of the page detailing more specifics about each woman's background and achievements. Really smart and well-done and I especially love how they used X as a placeholder for the women whose stories we don't know and the women who are going to do great things in the future.

every child in my life is getting this from now on. wish i had it on my shelf as a young girl. gorgeous artwork, accessible life descriptions - of course the list isn't complete, but they nod to that. filling a great and inspirational space in children's books.
