For a short story collection about love, this did not feel very romantic. There are people, who are friends, and then they say something which apparently means they like each other more than friends, and they kiss. There is no tension, no longing, no pining! But apart from that, I was still able to enjoy most of them. I have already read Midnights and Kindred Spirits before, and I enjoyed Winter Songs for Summer, Snow for Christmas, and In Waiting just as much. I'm especially curious if we will ever see James and Anna in a book👀

I would like to preface this review by saying that i hate rainbow racist! sorry, rowell :). now with that in mind:

adorable slices of life that i thoroughly enjoyed:
1. midnights
2. kindred spirits (this one was actually just fine)
3. winter songs for summer
4. the snow ball
5. snow for christmas

strange, confusing, boring, or shitty pieces i did not love:
1. if the fates allow
2. the prince and the troll
3. mixed messages
4. in waiting

now, i do not like rainbow rowell- the only other one of her books i have read in its entirety is carry on (DNFd fangirl, wayward son because they… sucked, essentially) however, the first half of this short story collection really hit the mark- they were cute, true, and relatable for the majority. the characters were fleshed out even with the shorter length and it felt like an intimate peek into each of their lives. the second half, however, was confusing, shifting constantly in tone, boring at times, and sending mixed signals to the reader. this is because rowell went on a reunion tour for all of her other works. spoiler alert: we don’t care! but i really did enjoy the first half, i wish she would come to her senses and realize that making some crazy meta moral to drive your short story is not necessary- you can just be cute, that’s clearly where her strengths lie.
