Just not my style of book, content was really interesting and I feel like I had to challenge some of my thinking which is great. Just wish there had been more reasoning behind some of it based on scientific studies or at least case studies, felt anecdotal.

A good amount of this was stuff that u already know or have been taught. I enjoyed the view of feminism through capitalism and the critiques of white feminists through capitalism. The statistics that were included were helpful for context as well. Over all a good book to introduce the idea of intersectionality and how harmful white feminism can be.

First and foremost, if you've read Hood Feminism, I think White Feminism is a logical follow up (especially as it is a bit denser).

Secondly, this book clearly and concretely links white feminism to capitalism and consumerism, a stance that I often find lacking in other feminist texts (and greatly appreciate in this one).

Thirdly, those who are upset that this book doesn't "give action items" might need to re-read section three, as it pretty clearly lists ideas that white feminists need to unlearn, and new ideas to engage with.

I do think this book was at times painted a bit too broadly, but that's often what happens when condensing hundreds of years of history into 350 pages. I have personal beef with the teeny-tiny font size in the UK paperback edition, so I recommend the audiobook if that's an accessible option.

White Feminism conceptualizes how white women have historically utilized the feminist movement as an imperialist force, and then she continues by discussing how this overlap of race, gender, and class can be used to encourage a type of "girl boss" feminism that ultimately maintains classist systems of oppression. I think this a great read, especially for anyone looking for feminist critique.

A great primer for a wide variety of intersectional feminist issues, but I feel I didn’t learn much from it that I didn’t already have a grasp on. I found the section about racism in the suffrage movement the most interesting, and found the more modern stuff in the second half of the book a little meandering.
