“Caring for them [premature babies] is like touching some essence, something you aren’t supposed to see: the terrible beauty of a human being built, gorgeous and unknowable.”

Although I enjoyed it, I’d be hesitant to recommend unless it’s a population or topic you are particularly interested in. However, it’s a really remarkable book on prematurity and neonatology. Gave such beautiful language to the incredible little world I’m so fortunate get to call “work” during the week.

I made the decision to stop reading this book because of my closeness to the topic. I was crying every time I read a page, thinking about my daughters. I would like to eventually revisit this title once I am a bit further away from my experience.

Really good information here, and it has given my wife and I some context to what we are going through with our 27 week old twins. This has been an extraordinarily difficult time, as one of the twins is doing really poorly, and this book has allowed us to learn a bit more. I recommend this for everyone, especially if you have or are expected to give pre term birth.
