This book does is not a victim of the second book slump. While there is a clear plot that it’s following, there is still a bunch going on and we learn so much about the core characters in this one.

I think I prefer the first book more than this one. Book two does a lot of setting up for the final book and introduces a lot of conflict between characters.
With up the set up there are also a lot of character development. I thought the development was good and needed in fleshing out some of the characters. With all the character development it did feel like the action scenes lacked in comparison.

All in all I really liked the book and want to finish the series soon.

This book suffers of severe middle book syndrome. It drags on, the plot being in that awkward place between the start and the resolution. I had to push myself through this book, hoping for better to come. But the plot pretty much kept its pace, making that part of the book very monotonous. The plot was also incredibly predictable. So predictable, that I didn’t think it would take this obvious of a route. But it did. I’m really hoping the third and last book in the trilogy does better.

But next to the plot points, this book was about recovery of trauma. And I think the book handled that well. We see how different characters handle it all in their own ways. When it comes to character development, the series needed this middle part.

It starts off at a medium pace, and then the final act picks up to a fast, bitter cliff hanger for the final book in the trilogy.
I really enjoyed Lei's arc, and how she sees more than the others, maintains her heart of gold despite her own personal battles and the effects of war around her.
Second time reading Girls 2, and still the revelations of how far some characters go to defeat the evil King chills me.
Also liked the new perspectives of characters, because it broadens the scope of an all-out war, seeing it from the points of view from people all over the country of Ikhara.
Excited for Girls 3!
