This was a Kindle First Read (free) book.

Main character was a bit full of herself so it was hard to like her. In the end, her thoughts/feelings were validated/justified so...iunno, maybe she isn’t so full of herself?

There was a lot going on. It was an interesting (and fast) read. My rating is based on my like/dislike of some of the characters as people (they were well developed).

This was my first book by this author. I’d read another of her books.

Sorry to say I was not very impressed with this book., and struggled to get through it. I didn't like any of the characters and while the writing was ok I didn't like the way it was set up with mainly dialog. I did like the plot. Giving a 3 star

So I can burn through a good novel in a day, I've been trying to finish this book for three days. I have to force myself to finish it.

The first 70% of the book is so uninteresting, then BAM chapter like 30 hits and you are like WTF did I just read.

It is a very slow, painful read. I was excited because it is set in DC/MD/VA which I am from MD so I was excited, I very quickly lost interest due to the slowness of this novel. I will finish it.

Couldn't get into this book for weeks and then suddenly I was hooked. I enjoyed learning the few bits about psychology and the science behind it. I felt the development of Harlan was pretty easy to see but still was thrilling. Enjoyed the relationship with Jackie and Nasira...this is how grownups behave. Wish Miles would have been a more developed character. Overall I though the current storyline was better than the flashbacks because the flashbacks had me wanting more.

Jackie, a Psychology Professor spent 5 years dating her coworker, Harlan. Though she was head over heels for him, he wasn’t as emotionally available as she wanted and she ultimately made the tough decision to end things. Jackie ended up marrying a wonderful man, though thoughts of Harlan still found their way into her head no matter how hard she tried to keep them at bay. After coming back from his sabbatical, Harlan meets Jackie and her husband for dinner, bringing Nasira, his new girlfriend as well as the new member of Jackie’s research team. Jackie watches as all of the limitations Harlan put on their relationship so long ago are being completely bypassed in his relationship with Nasira. She can’t help but compare her time with Harlan and Nasira’s time with Harlan. Jackie slowly starts coming undone and becomes a little obsessed when she discovers that Harlan is not who he says he is.

This book was a weird read. I did not like how needy Jackie was, I wanted a more independent lead role. Outside of Jackie being a bit annoying and obsessed, she was blatantly stalking her ex and talking about it with her current husband. I felt bad for the guy - who ended up having his own secrets, but still didn’t deserve the way that Jackie treated him. Harlan was a nutbag and was creepy the entire book. I felt bad for Nasira, she was put in the middle and blinded by Harlan’s insincere charm. The only word I have for the book is strange. There was a twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting but it just added to the weirdness of this book.

Brilliant

I tend to like books with tons of plot twists, this is the first book in a long time that has been able to keep my attention without me trying to figure out 10 answers to who did what. I enjoyed it so much.
