I must preface this with this isn't the type of book I'd usually choose - however as a huge fan of Fallen Order and excitedly awaiting Survivor, I had to read this. But low-key wish I hadn't. The best parts of this book is; Merrin being a badass pansexual nightsister, BD-1, BD-1 & bogling (besties!!!) and learning a little more about the friendship between each member of the Mantis.
However, much of the book feels like it won't matter in Survivor (even though it was marketed to bridge the 5 year gap between the games), except a grizzly moment for Greez and the introduction to Fifth Brother.
Overall, if they wanted to bridge the gap - maybe a TV show would've fit better especially as Cameron Monaghan is a fantastic actor (See; Gotham, Shameless). Either way, still very excited for Survivor (as it won't have Sam Maggs writing it)

I have complicated feelings about this book. It was all over the place and not in a fun way. It felt like a massive fanfiction and not in the way that I initially imagined. My full review is on Project Fangirl:

needed another edit to cut maybe 50 pages of unnecessary repetition and boring tangents

Everything this book tries to do, Jedi Survivor does way better. Just play the game. Book feels lacking and really fast, I wanted more time with the Mantis Crew. Especially with Cere. Not a fan of the new character, Fret. She's a bad case of being told she's great but not really having anything to back it up. Disappointing read

Oh it was good, it was so good, also it was gay, so gay, in the very best way. It enforced my love of BD-1 even more strongly, which I didn’t think was possible and has me hoping for a live action appearance of Cal… also, so so excited for Survivor now.

This was such a poorly written book, I can’t tell if the author thought the audience was dumb, or they themselves are just dumb. It feels so slow paced because you spend so much time during the action inside the character’s heads hearing their every thought. I also hated the third person limited narrative that would randomly switch which character’s mind they were in. It even made me kind of hate the characters too, especially since there’s little to no character development at all. It really felt like this book was just a bad knock off of Rebels. Maybe if I knew more about the Jedi video games, then I would have liked this book better (but I doubt it).
Graphic: Violence, Grief, War, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Death, Genocide, and Blood
Minor: Sexual content

This was…really mixed. The romance (and new character) was awful & poorly written but the stuff outside of it was *ok* I guess. The plot was really weak & badly paced but the development for Mantis crew (especially Merrin) was ok.
